Can You Get Pregnant a Day After Ovulation? I'll Tell You

Recently, I received an email from a woman who suspected that she had intercourse the day after ovulation. What happened was that her husband had been away on business and she was using an ovulation predictor while he was gone. On his last day away, she got a positive reading on the predictor, indicating that she had just ovulated. Obviously, they could not try to conceive on this day, since her husband was in another state.

However, when he returned the next day (which would be one day after ovulation) they had intercourse and attempted to conceive. The wife wanted to know if this attempt was too late or if you really can get pregnant after ovulation occurs. I will address this specific situation in the following article.

Conception One Day After Ovulation: Is This Possible?: It's extremely possible. In fact, it's a very favorable time frame. Here's why. Your egg can possibly live for longer than one day, as can your partner's sperm chromosomes. People sometimes think that you have only one day in which you can get pregnant, but this just isn't so. Specifically, the thorough egg is said to be viable for anywhere from 12 - 72 hours, depending on the person that we are talking about. The sperm has an even longer and more generous life span, where 72 hours is the norm rather than the exception.

Since she had gotten the "positive" reading on the afternoon (around 4:00), I would say that she was most definitely within safe ranges on the morning of the next day (around 10:00 am.) So, if she did not get pregnant, it would likely not be because her timing was wrong. It would be due to the many other factors that affect whether you become pregnant or not. But in this case, the timing was fine.

Why Conceiving Following Ovulation Is More Like To Give You A Boy Baby: Just for fun, I explained to her that the time frame that she had used was more likely to produce a boy or male baby (if she had been successful.) This is because as more time goes on, the boy producing sperm, or the Y's, die off and become less plentiful. So, if she had been able to have intercourse before ovulation (if her husband had actually been in the same state) then probably much more females would have been present for the scramble and / or the mad dash to the egg. This would give the girl producing sperm the distinct advantage as they would have likely been represented in far greater numbers and volume. (Picture a football chart with X's and Y's with MANY more X's. Which is more likely to catch the pass?) This does not mean that the boys can't get through or intercept that pass, even with only small numbers present, but it does greatly increase the odds.

But guess what? She and her husband wanted to parent a daughter this time around. I told her that there was really nothing that she could do to change the course of events that had already happened. The time frame that she was working within now was definitely more favorable to boys - at least at this time. So, she really had to wait to see if she had become pregnant and, if she had not, she needed to start over. Of course that did not mean that she had to go with the same game plan the next time.

I told her that the next month, she should maybe consider trying a saliva (or spit - rather than a urine) ovulation predictor as this could show near positives that would help her to get the timing right. She could then have intercourse in the time frame that favored girl babies more (which was as much as seventy two hours before that true plus or positive.) I told her that she should also turn her attention to her PH reading and to try to raise it. An acidic environment, or a low PH, very much favors producing daughters because it is harsh enough to discourage the quickly disappearing boy sperm.

So to recap some specific strategies, for these parents to be, I would advise shooting for the period before ovulation rather than much later. In this instance, it could not be helped. But, next time, perhaps it could. I would also start immediately determining where she was PH wise. If she was already very acidic, she would only need to maintain this. But, if she trended even slightly alkaline, then she should change or tweak her diet to exclude low PH foods and to stack alkaline ones.

Protein Shakes Are a Quick and Easy Way to Ensure Your Body Gets the Sufficient Nutrition

Protein shakes are a quick and easy way to ensure your body gets the sufficient nutrition it needs after exercise. An average drink will have 40g of protein and will be absorbed with 40 minutes. All weight trainers know the benefits of using them but not all of them realise what a useful tool they can be when dieting.

Protein shakes are high in protein but low in carbohydrates and fat so are an ideal substitute to a meal or a snack. When you feel like reaching for the cookie jar a drink could easily replace a handful of chocolate chip cookies and will help you reach your weight loss targets. Massprotein recommend Dymatize Nutrition Elite Whey protein powder, this 2.27KG tub offers great value for money. I in my opinion, that this web page described this incredibly on this muay boran website. With 24g of protein per scoop with very little carbohydrates and fat this product is ideal to have when dieting. Dymatize Nutrition offer numerous flavours all of which are great tasting.

Most protein shakes are called whey protein, whey protein is quickly absorbed by the body, and so if you think a whey protein drink will not keep you full then try a meal replacement drink. Meal replacements are great for on the go people as the meal replacement formula is simply mixed with water. Meal replacement formulas typically have a mix of both slow acting protein such as casein protein and fast acting protein such as whey protein. Meal replacements are also full of essential amino acids, complex carbohydrates and vitamins, meal replacements are a liquid meal and tend to be a lot thicker and therefore more filling then a whey protein shake.

Massprotein recommends CNP Pro-MR, which comes in 20 handy sachets so you can easily take them when you are out and about. A useful tip is to have them in your car, with a shaker mixer and some water, if you ever get held up and you begin craving a fast food burger and chips, stop and make yourself a meal replacement and be satisfied in knowing you're getting a low fat tasty meal.

So how could a protein drink help you lose weight? The trick when losing weight is to keep your metabolism fast and active, this means eating smaller regular meals. This will force the body to become more efficient and not store extra calories as body fat. Eating 4-6 meals a day can be a struggle, so this is why 2/3 of these meals should be protein shakes. If you become tired of drinking protein shakes, then why not have a protein bar instead which would work in the same way. Massprotein recommends Lonsdale King Pro, with 50g protein and low fat and sugar they are ideal to substitute a meal.

Weight trainers and bodybuilders have been using protein drinks and meal replacement powders to help them reach a lean great looking physique for years, showing that they work. It's about time that the average Joe started using them to help them meet their weight loss goals!

What Are Good Protein Shakes?

Protein is an essential component of a human's body. While it is widely found within our body system, the cellular tissues cannot reproduce protein by itself, which is enough to nurture our daily nutritional needs. These tissues need to be able to get a hold of protein from outside sources like food and drinks. Aside from meal protein diets, protein shakes have also been accepted and proven to be a good source of protein. Protein shakes are popular among body-builders, athletes, runners, and people within the health and fitness industry. I discovered that this blog explained this incredibly on this food article.Aside from its main function of repairing and rebuilding muscular tissue and strong bones, especially after work-out's and doing strenuous activities, protein dietary shakes are also known to aid and help in weight management and weight loss. Drinking such dietary shakes could either be used to gain or lose mass, even though its overall effect is to enhance our bodies' muscles, while repairing and rebuilding damaged tissues. So what are good protein shakes that one can use in order to fulfill the necessary daily nutritional requirements?

No matter how you look at it, protein is protein. Its function is the same, regardless of brand and form. However, the difference lies on the dependability of the product - whether it is real protein or just protein added with artificial ingredients. This is the reason why choosing good protein shakes, you need to make sure that your source is reliable and authentic. Due to the increasing demands of protein-rich dietary shakes, you can find protein powders everywhere - in markets, malls, community and online individual distributors, and many other sources. With all these, finding good protein shakes is the main concern for conscious health buffs. Considering all other areas hold true and that all the available protein powders in the market are authentic ones, what are good protein shakes then? To know whether a protein-rich shake is good or not, you must know your individual needs and goals.

Do you want to slim down? Do you want to gain weight? Do you want to be muscular? Do you want to become lean? Are you just taking protein shakes to fulfill the daily nutritional requirements needed in your body system? You should be able to pinpoint your specific goal in order to identify which protein powder you should use to blend in your dietary shake. If you are a woman wanting to manage and control your weight, you should choose a protein shake which is low in carbohydrates and fats. Aside from that, you should take note of the vitamins and minerals you require and try to find them in the protein powder. Women, unlike men, require more iron and calcium. The required amount of iron is increased as compared to men because of the women's monthly menstrual cycle. Women are more susceptible to osteoporosis, so women need higher calcium in their diet. If you are a man striving to gain weight and develop muscles, then good protein shakes for you mean those, which are rich in protein and high in carbohydrates and fats. It all really depends on your needs and wants, but always remember that when using protein shakes, you should use them to supplement your daily diet.

Do You Really Need a Weightlifting Belt, or Is Your Core Letting You Down?

The main reason for using a weight belt while exercising is to protect the lower back from damage. Exercises that usually require the participant to wear a weight belt are exercises such as heavy squats, deadlifts, cleans and snatch.

The belt is worn around the waist and when the abdominal muscles contract they push against the belt providing a Extra support to the core and hopefully prevents a lower back injury. For the purpose of this report I will use the squat as an example. I personally think that this blog owner explained this simply on this escape muay thai clinch ufc undisputed blog post.

A lot of trainers state that humans have our own weight belt, these people are referring to our core muscles. The core muscles are made up of the Rectus abdominous, obliques, erecta spinae, quadratus lumborum and the pelvic floor muscles.

Some people dispute the use of a weight lifting belt saying that you shouldn't be lifting a weight unless you have the core strength to handle it. If you are lifting a weight that is too heavy for your muscles, in theory you will get hurt.

In most cases with the squat the legs aren't what fail first, it is usually the core strength. What happens is the abdominals and lower back don't have the strength to sustain that amount of weight resulting in either failing to lift the weight or lifting with such bad form that you get injured.

What tends to happen is instead of taking the time to strengthen their core, trainers put on a weight belt to compensate for the lack of strength. This way you can work your legs all the want, which is good for growing leg strength, but by neglecting the core region and by using th assistance of a weight belt the trainer will never build a stronger core.

I strongly believe that if trainers spent a bit more time strengthening their core they will not only be able to lift more weight but be able to be more functional in sport and everyday life. I believe that core strength and stability is the key to building a better athlete and a better body.

In conclusion, weight belts are still a great piece of weight training equipment as long as they are used the right way. Powerlifters use them all the time and they already have a strong core. The reason they use one is because they are doing 1-rep max lifts, which requires a greater amount of strength than what they train with.

So think on what you are doing in the gym and how you are training.

Do you really require a weight belt?

Is your core letting you down?

George R R Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire

I'm a relative newcomer to Martin's work but I always try and see a positive to it. At least I have hours of reading ahead with something I haven't actually read yet.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a massive fan of fantasy but do love a good story. I'm sick of goblins and orcs. After the success of The Lord of the Rings films the literary world took an epileptic fit on goblins. Every book had them. It became a formula for success rather than a story that really needed to be told. It annoyed me that so many writers, rather than try to think of something new, just punched out a story of goblins and orcs. I was waiting on a highschool romance between a beautiful blonde and a goblin who looked like he had his face turned inside out. Thankfully that didn't happen.

What is refreshing about Martin's work is that it doesn't have any of that stereotypical nonsense. It's new and creative and realistic. If you thought hard about it you could almost place the events in history. Yes, there are small fantastical elements to his writing but nothing about a quest for the ever elusive and all powerful diamond that if it fell into the wrong hands it could spell the end of civilisation as we know it. I hate that nonsense.

I won't spoil the Song of Ice and Fire Saga but I will say it is amongst the best I have read in a long time. Martin has an eye for detail and an uncanny ability to develop character and a finely tuned ear for dialogue. I found that this weblog demonstrated this well on this Marlys Peretti post.

Martin has created a world of civilisations, each with it's own culture and politics, and so believable that you'd think such a place might actually exist somewhere. I know some think the books are a little on the long side but in my opinion to cut anything out would mean slashing a carefully crafted atmosphere, so much so that it would take away from the series as a whole and not just the book itself.

My only hope is that Martin has an end in sight and doesn't just keep churning them out due to the recent success of the television adaptation. It's much better to end on a high with fans begging for more than to walk off into the sunset with only a handful of people wondering where you are.

St. Martin Hotel Ideas

St. Martin is a French overseas territory in the Caribbean that is fast becoming known as a sophisticated resort destination that's off the beaten track. Located on Saint Martin, one of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, Saint Martin offers a variety of hotel options.

Saint Martin, a relatively little-known destination, has preserved some of its anonyminity thanks to the fact it is located on an island of the same name - Saint Martin - and shares this island with the Dutch Caribbean territory of Sint Maarten. Adding to the confusion is that French St. Martin was once part of the French Caribbean commune of Guadeloupe; Guadeloupe is itself a different island about 150 kilometers southeast of saint Martin. However, St. Martin has been incorporated as a self-governing entity since 2007, and, as part of France, Saint Martin is actually a member of the European Union. One benefit of this is that hotels must meet European specfifications. I found that this blog showed this intelligently on this Marcus Mcarthur weblog.

So, the island has a distinctly European feel, and its hotels reflect this. As mentioned, St. Martin shares the island with Dutch Sint Maarten, with the French territory occupying roughly the northern half of the island. While the Dutch portion of the island is home to Princess Juliana International Airport, famous for a runway that ends right at the water and a beautiful swimming beach, French St. Martin is the larger of the two territories, and three distinct regions to book a place to stay.

Marigot, on the west coast of the territory, is the commercial center of Saint Martin. There are beautiful beaches here, plus plenty of amenities including fashionable shopping centers, superb restaurants, and large hotels that can handle an equally larger volume of guests. While there is beachfront lodging in Marigot, for the most part there is none of the splendour and intimacy normally associated with a "Caribbean hotel."

Orleans, on the west coast of the territory is also a commercial center, although there are number of beachfront options to choose from. Choosing a hotel in Orleans means choosing easy access to the beach, to nightlife, and to the Dutch half of the island.

Grand Case, in the north of the island, is off the beaten track. The region is not as developed as Marigot and Orleans (although there is an airport in Grand Case), and beachfront hotels are the norm. Grand Case is also exposed to cooling trade winds, and is also adjacent to migratory routes for speveral species of whale.

So there are a variety of hotel options to choose from in the French territory of St. Martin. Visitors can choose from the centrality of Marigot, the "best of all worlds" convenience of Orleans, or the secluded privacy of Grand Case.

George RR Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire Series

George R.R. Martin is an award-winning author who, with the continuing success of his popular A Song of Ice and Fire series, has been called the "present and future king of the New York Times bestseller's list." But who, exactly, is George R.R. Martin? Below are some interesting facts that shed more light on this illustrious figure as both a writer and a person.

He has been writing since he was kid. As a child, Martin sold monster stories to other children in exchange for pennies - dramatic readings included.

He used to work in Hollywood. Martin was involved in CBS's Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast. He conceived A Song of Ice and Fire almost as a reaction to the restrictions of TV and film, which forced him to cut a lot of material in order to fit a 45 minute show. He wanted to create a grand epic with a cast of thousands. From the looks of things, he is very nearly there.

It was also his experience with scripts that led him to fashion his chapters as he would "act breaks" - with cliffhangers and twists that keep readers coming back for more.

He is a fan of historical fiction. He loves historical fiction and admits that A Song of Ice and Fire has a historical feel to it. The Wall is based on Hadrian's Wall in Scotland. His problem with history is that one already knows how it all ends. Thus, he prefers to write unpredictable stories under genre fiction, though with more emphasis on characters and political intrigue than on the fantastical setting.

Readers beware! He is also a fan of the bittersweet ending of Lord of the Rings. I found that this webpage demonstrated this really well on this Raymonde Mulaney web page.

He is known as the jaded Tolkien of America. Whereas Tolkien's King Aragorn is expected to bring justice, good crops, and prosperity; Martin's Kings are far more earthly, facing problems such as tax and crop rotation. Martin's world is also quite jaded, with multiple murders, rapes, beheadings and dismemberments, of which not even the children are spared.

R.R. in George R.R. Martin stands for Raymond Richard, but if you ask him what the initials stand for, he will likely answer "my middle name."

He fancies himself a Lannister more than a Stark - and he would always pay his debts.

He is not cold-blooded. Killing off characters does not come as easy to him as some people think. While it is true that there is no character that he will not subject to utter doom for the sake of the story, it comes at a high price. "It's a little like killing a part of yourself or smothering one of your children, but sometimes it has to be done for the almighty god of the story," he says. "The story always comes first."

He is not a perfect writer. He has a horse that changes sex between the first and second books. He has bad days when all he can write for the good part of a day is one whole sentence. Fans have given him grief for taking so long to produce the next book and wrap up the series.

To Martin, though, it's not about advancing the plot as much as telling a story within a world rich with characters and history. It's exactly what fans have come to love about A Song of Ice and Fire and some need to be reminded that, that kind of depth and details does not come easy, even to a writer of Martin's caliber. It is rare enough to conceive such an epic and we are fortunate that one George R. R. Martin had the patience and gumption to put his pen to paper and share Westeros with the world.

A Beautiful Mind Movie Review - Starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connely

"A Beautiful Mind" is a wonderful film based on the life of the Nobel Prize winning mathematician and economist John Nash and his lifelong struggle with schizophrenia. The acting of Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connely are both superb, as is the story, which I find quite moving.

The movie begins at Princeton University, where Nash (Crowe) is attending graduate school in math. He is brilliant but socially awkward. He becomes best friends with his roommate Charles, a literature student.

After college, Nash accepts a position at MIT, along with his friends Sol and Bender. Shortly thereafter he meets Alicia (Connely), with whom he falls in love and eventually marries. Nash runs into his former roommate Charles, who introduces him to his young niece Marcee. Nash also meets a Department of Defense agent, William Parcher. Nash is invited to the pentagon to crack a secret encryption of an enemy communication, which he does in his head. Parcher also asks Nash to look for secret codes in newspapers and magazines. Nash begins behaving erratically. I found that this site demonstrated this amazingly on this Lola Obrein post.

Sol starts watching Nash and eventually gets him sedated and sent to a psychiatric facility, where it is discovered that he's been suffering from hallucinations and schizophrenia. Eventually he's released from the hospital with the provision that he take antipsychotic medication. Unfortunately the medication has some bad side effects, including impotence, so he secretly stops taking it, whence his hallucinations return.

Eventually Nash is able to keep his illness under control when he realizes that Marcee has not aged since he met her several years ago. He then realizes that Charles, Marcee, and Parcher are products of his imagination. Over the next several years, he slowly recuperates. Eventually he receives the Nobel Prize in Economics as an old man.

Motivate Your English Language Learners To Speaking Improvement Using Comedy, Anecdotes and Stories

Add These Suggestions to Your "Bag of Tricks"

Inherently, most people really do like to talk. That includes your English language learners too, although sometimes you have to literally pry the speech from their frozen lips by any means necessary. Have you tried using comedy, anecdotes, stories and fairy tales to lure them into speaking activities? If not, consider adding these five suggestions to your English or foreign language teaching "bag of tricks".

1. Tell an Anecdote

Everyone has a personal store of humorous stories, happenings or anecdotes that they're willing to tell. With learners and teachers alike, many of these might even originate in the EFL classroom. Family, friends, romantic interludes and vacation travels can also account for a number of these.

2. Tell a Story

In many countries there is a tradition of passing down stories, fables and history through a series of verbal sessions by "Griots", or village story-tellers. Your learners may well a few of these they're willing to share before the class. Why not open up this option to them? There's no problem either, with using a few small, well-chosen props to aid in the story telling exercise.

3. Narrate a Fable

It's not only children who love stories, fairy tales and fables. Whether the origin is European, African, Latin American or Asian, your learners can try their hand at relating a well-known, or not so well-known, story or fable they know. If it originates from a local culture, it could be quite interesting for you too and is an excellent way to help to delve more deeply into the local or national culture. I found that this web page described this well on this Yulanda Ludecke weblog.

4. Re-Tell a Fairy Tale

The most popular fairy tales, in practically any country, are often ones you heard or learned as a child. Allow your English language learners to try their hand at telling or re-telling these fairy tales in English using their own words, idioms, expressions and language skills to do so. They needn't stick to the "original" version either. A change of endings, modified characters and plot twists are most welcome, thank you very much.

5. Tell a Joke

Who doesn't enjoy humor? Everyone knows a few good jokes or a joker or two who can give you a few good jokes to tell. Go onto the internet for a slew of these. Check out your local library for collections of riddles, jokes and humorous stories that might be used to stimulate speaking practice in English class. Did you hear the one about ...

So if you haven't tried using comedy, anecdotes, stories and fairy tales to lure your English language learners and reluctant students into speaking activities consider adding these five suggestions to your English or foreign language teaching "bag of tricks". Remember, if you have any further questions, comments or assistance, just e-mail me. I'll be happy to help.
